farmerBecky Boyd
As I begin my sixth school year here at WHCA and my seventeenth year of teaching, I laugh a bit at a quote by William Shakespeare who once said, “We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”  With a BS and MA in English, I know I am an English teacher, and have been for my entire teaching career.  However, I did not know that I would also be a history teacher!  The beauty of WHCA is that in the midst of our family learning environment, there are always surprises!  Although I readily admit I am not as skilled as a history teacher, rest assured I will give my best effort with the talents God has given me to teach all of my courses, both English and history, with zeal and with challenge.  Honestly, I don’t know when I have been as excited about a new school year as I am this time.  I know we had a very difficult year last year, but I firmly believe God has blessed us with a chance to start over.  Winston Churchill once said, “Kites rise highest against the wind. . . not with it.”  My prayer is that God will give me strength to help everyone rise against the wind this year as my students grow in knowledge and in spirit.

My life is still hectic with my three children.  Brett is 7 and is loving Ms. Shular’s class at WHCA.  Reece is almost 4 and is a butterfly with Miss Christy Buck; he is excited to be in the “real” WHCA building!  My little Mallory just turned 2 and is every bit a dramatic, two-year-old little girl!  She is also in the preschool in the ladybug room with Ms. Rachel and WHCA graduate Anna Tyree Hampton.  It is an incredible feeling to know my children are here with me and can experience the magic of WHCA, too.
